Author Guidelines

Advances in Health and Exercise (Adv Health Exerc) publishes Research Articles, Review Articles, and Letters in all areas of health and exercise sciences. Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by any other journal.

All submissions must be written in English and submitted electronically through the journal’s online submission system.

The journal does not charge any submission or publication fees.

Ethical Requirements

All research articles involving human participants or animals must have approval from an appropriate Research Ethics Committee. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their studies comply with national and international ethical standards.

The scientific content, ethical compliance, and legal responsibility of the manuscript rest entirely with the author(s).

After submission, no changes to authorship (addition, removal, or reordering of authors) are permitted. Submissions that violate this rule will be canceled.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review. Submissions are initially evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief for scope, quality, and compliance with the journal’s guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without external peer review.

Manuscripts deemed suitable are sent to independent reviewers whose identities remain anonymous. The review process typically takes 1–3 months.

Submission Forms and Templates

To ensure consistency, transparency, and compliance with journal policies, authors are required to use the official journal documents during the submission process. All required files must be uploaded through the journal’s online submission system.

Required Documents

    Authors are strongly encouraged to prepare their manuscripts using the official manuscript template to ensure formatting consistency and compliance with journal requirements. [Download Manuscript Template]

All submissions that do not include the required documents or do not comply with the journal’s formatting and ethical standards may be returned to the authors for correction prior to peer review.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word.

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point
  • Line spacing: Double-spaced
  • Margins: 25 mm
  • Format: Single-column
  • Maximum length: 20 pages

The manuscript should be organized in the following order:

  1. Title Page
  2. Abstract
  3. Keywords
  4. Main Text
  5. Acknowledgements (if applicable)
  6. References
  7. Tables and Figures with captions

All pages must be numbered consecutively.

Title Page (submitted as a separate document)

The title page must include:

  • Full manuscript title
  • Full names of all authors
  • Institutional affiliations
  • E-mail addresses
  • ORCID iDs
  • Corresponding author’s name and e-mail address
  • Running head

Main Text (submitted as a separate document)

The main text must not contain any author-identifying information and should include:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Acknowledgements
  • References
  • Tables and Figures

Abstract

The abstract should be written as a single paragraph (without subheadings) and include the purpose, methods, results, conclusions, and practical implications of the study.

  • Length: 150–300 words

Keywords

Provide 3–6 keywords in alphabetical order.

Introduction

The Introduction should present the background of the study and clearly state the research hypothesis or purpose.

Methods

The Methods section must describe the study design, participants, procedures, and statistical analyses in sufficient detail.

Authors must state:

  • The name of the approving ethics committee
  • That informed consent was obtained from participants
  • Compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki (for human studies)
  • Compliance with relevant animal research regulations (if applicable)

Results

Results should be presented clearly and objectively, without interpretation.

Discussion

The Discussion should interpret the findings, highlight their significance, and relate them to existing literature. The main conclusions and practical relevance should be clearly stated.

Acknowledgements

List individuals or organizations that contributed to the study but do not meet authorship criteria.

Author Contributions

All authors must have made substantial contributions to the manuscript. Author contributions should be clearly stated using a recognized contribution framework (e.g., the CRediT taxonomy).

Examples of contribution categories include, but are not limited to:

  • Conceptualization
  • Methodology
  • Data curation
  • Formal analysis
  • Investigation
  • Writing – original draft
  • Writing – review & editing
  • Visualization
  • Supervision

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed authors meet authorship criteria and that the contribution statement accurately reflects each author’s role.

Example statement:

Author A contributed to the study design and data collection. Author B performed the statistical analysis. Author C drafted the manuscript. All authors reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must include a Conflict of Interest Statement in their manuscript. If no conflict exists, authors should state:

“The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”

Funding Statement

Authors are required to include a Funding Statement in their manuscripts.

All sources of financial support for the research, including grants, institutional funding, or support from public, commercial, or non-profit organizations, must be disclosed.

If no funding was received, authors should include the following statement:

“The authors declare that no financial support was received for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.”

Data Availability Statement

Authors are required to include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscripts.

The statement should indicate whether the data supporting the findings of the study are publicly available, available upon reasonable request from the corresponding author, or not available due to ethical, legal, or confidentiality restrictions.

Public data sharing is not mandatory; however, a clear declaration regarding data availability is required.

References

References should be listed alphabetically by authors’ last names. In-text citations should follow the author–date format.

Journal titles must be abbreviated according to Index Medicus style.

  • Maximum of 5 tables
  • Each table and figure must have a caption and be numbered
  • Tables should not include vertical lines
  • Explanatory notes should be placed as footnotes

Publication Fees

Advances in Health and Exercise does not charge any submission or publication fees. All accepted papers are published free of charge.
